Dear families,
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope the holidays gave everyone a chance to rest, recharge, and enjoy time with loved ones. Now that we’ve returned, there's a real sense of excitement across the school as students settle into learning with fresh energy and curiosity.
This term promises to be full of opportunities - whether it's diving deeper into classroom learning, exploring creative projects, participating in sports, or preparing for events like our Book Week celebrations. Our wonderful staff are ready to support and guide every child through these experiences, helping them grow not just academically, but socially and emotionally too.
We continue to place a strong focus on student wellbeing, respect for one another, and building a positive school culture that reflects our shared values. Through partnerships with you - our families - we can make this term a truly successful and rewarding one for all.
Thank you for your continued support, enthusiasm, and trust. Let’s make Term 3 a time to celebrate progress, embrace challenges, and nurture the joy of learning.
The brilliant brains in 5-6 Alexander have been diving into two fun parts of learning - angles and abbreviations.
Angles are all around us - from the edges of our books to the way a door opens! There are acute angles, obtuse angles, right angles, even straight angles.

Abbreviations - shortcuts that speak volumes! Here are just a few - ASAP = as soon as possible! TBC = to be confirmed, ETA = estimated time of arrival, and one for the handy mum and dad - DIY = do it yourself!

And finally our creative sides produced some colourful geckos.

Our class received a very special parcel all the way from London – it was from Paddington Bear! He explained how easy it is to be kind to others, through thoughtful actions, using kind words and helping people.
That made us think about what we could do that would make Paddington feel welcome if he came to our school. We came up with some bright ideas. We hope Paddington comes to see our kindness ideas!

Oh my goodness there is a zoo in Kinder Gold! There are lions and tiger and pandas and so much more in our zoo.
We have been reading Dear Zoo - oh what fun we have had asking the zoo for our favourite animals! Maybe some of our choices will not be so welcome in our homes!

2025 is a milestone year for Childrens Book Council of Australia as they celebrate 80 years of Children’s Book Week! For 8 decades, CBCA has been dedicated to inspiring young minds to journey through the countless worlds that books offer, encouraging children to set off on adventures through time, lands, and imagination. We look forward to continuing this mission for the next 80 years and beyond!
In Week 5 of this term Glenorchy Primary will be celebrating Book Week!
Book an Adventure with us!! Each class will be choosing a book to celebrate (and recreate!). They will be sharing their work in our special Book Week assembly on Wednesday 20 August at 2:00pm. All our families are warmly invited to come along and share the magic that can be found in a book!
Keep an eye on the Glenorchy Primary facebook page during Week 5 for some exciting posts!
Book books and more books!
So many of our students have embraced the challenge to record their reading efforts over the last few months - and wow what a great job they have done!
Just a reminder to all our keen readers that the challenge wraps up on 24th August. Please return your reading logs when they are complete - there are some great prizes to be won!!
Students in Kinder Blue have been making the most of the beautiful winter sun streaming through their classroom windows. They’ve been busy exploring the light, shadows, and shapes it creates, leading to some wonderful discoveries and creative expressions. Be sure to pop into our foyer and check out their colourful display on show throughout the week!
